The 1st in the Series – Selling Your Home: It Isn’t For Sissies!!

Bill and Cyndi Daves Your Realtors In The Mountains of Northeast Geogia and Western North Carolina

Have you ever visited a model home center in one of those fancy developments?  Close your eyes and imagine the perfectly manicured lawns and flower lined walkways leading up to perfected painted entries.  Inside you breathe in the smell of freshly painted walls, clean carpet and sparkling countertops.

Now, open your eyes and snap back to reality!   You’ve put your house on the market and, believe it or not, you ARE now living in that model center you imagined.   As your REALTORS, we are going to do our very best to market your home and put it in front of as many potential buyers are possible.  But for any team to be a success, each part has to do their part, and yours is to make it as beautiful and desirable as possible.

Close your eyes again and, just for a moment, remember that model center.  Now, open your eyes and let’s see how the home we are marketing compares.  Let’s start with what potential buyers will see first –

The Front Yard and Entry –

First impressions are huge and we definitely want to make a good one. Walk around your front yard.   Are the flower beds Bill and Cyndi Daves Realtors in Northeast Georgia and Western North Carolinabeautiful or overflowing with weeds?  Is the lawn mowed? Are there old or broken kids toys, rusty tools or other items out of place around the yard?  Now is a great time to freshen up the mulch, give the yard a nice cut and arrange that patio furniture into a nice inviting setting.  And, since the kids have gone away to college, it’s probably ok to donate that Little Tykes playhouse that is long since faded and forgotten.

Walk up the steps to the entry.  Does the front door need a new coat of paint? Are there cobwebs in the corners? Could those rockers use a once over?

You’ve walked up these steps hundreds of times and could probably do it with your eyes closed.  But now is the time to really OPEN your eyes and see.  See through the potential buyer’s eyes.  See the things that need fixing.  See the things that need cleaning.  See the things that need to be packed away (hey, you’re moving soon so why not get started) and see the things that need to be thrown away.

Remember, we’re a team and we each have a job to do.  We’ll do ours but we need YOUR help!
